Your Instructor
When I was twelve years old, my Dad took me to the bank to open my first account.I was taught the value of compound interest and having the bank work for me over putting my allowance and babysitting money in a piggybank. My Dad also taught me how to use a chequebook and pay bills.
I became a bookkeeper when my husband started his own painting contracting business in 1987.He ran the jobs, I ran the office. Due to my early training and savings strategies, we were able to build our own house the following year.
We sold that business in 1999; he stayed on to work for the new owners and I moved on to expand my own bookkeeping business, which I started in 1991 and sold in 2011.
After bookkeeping, I started troubleshooting for other businesses, finding out where their accounting was in error, fixing it and training their staff .
With all of these experiences it became apparent there was a need for public education in basic finances and I started working on designing courses aimed at those of us who have been neglected in this area, and new business owners.
